lyrics

There was an upstairs flat in Brixton
with a very angry man living downstairs
who we only ever knew as Mr E
forever confronting us on the stairs
about some disturbance real or imaginary (usually real)
that had happened the night before
and he'd punctuate the end of every sentence with this 'Boy!'
Anyway, he died and he'd been dead for a few days
and we broke into his flat
well we went to find out why it had been so quiet
and we ended up breaking into his flat
and he had this fantastic little leather pork pie hat that I ended up with
it was later stolen
Well I guess it was stolen in the first case,
wasn't it?
so this song is for him , Mr E...

Unrelieved
you're talking the language of sin, boy!
You don't plant to begin.
Now you're free
freer than military road
but wheels still grind &
buckle that load
Mr E

Uncle tree new found authority
argue it out with some middling minority
you're talking the language of sin.

On my knees
in the park as the clamour begins
protestant cemetery,
cats sick with dysentery
letters arriving, calls from constabulary
waited so long that the poor heart expired.
last scene descending to oceans of fire
Mr E

Unrelieved
you're talking the language of sin, boy!
Now you'll never begin
You are free
freer than military road
but wheels still grind &
buckle that load
(Mr E,)

Uncle tree new form authority
argue it out with some middling minority
you're talking the language of sin.
